Toronto Mayor Nathan Phillips felt that Maurice Richard was not just a Montreal treasure, but a national one. On January 18, 1956, Mayor Phillips awarded the Rocked a pair of gold cufflinks that bore the Toronto insignia.

That night, Richard led the Habs to a 3-2 win over the Leafs.
